About the project

In spring 2023 a world-class exhibition showcasing 18th Century artist William Hogarth took place at Derby Museums and Art Gallery. Hogarth’s Britons told the story of the Jacobite struggle to restore the exiled Stuart dynasty to the throne of Great Britain, and was in partnership with London’s National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. Several major grants and a public appeal which raised £20,000 brought the exhibition to the city.

CCC promoted this exhibition to raise awareness of this landmark cultural event taking place in the heart of Derby and to drive footfall.

CCC delivery

  • Media relations: drafting a save the date, full PR and pitching to media
  • Liaising with external partners and organisations
  • Drafting a key message document for staff use
  • Logging media coverage achieved/reporting back to Derby Museums and Art Gallery

Outcomes

CCC worked with the Press Association, generating 166+ items of media coverage, including BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, The Times, Museum + Heritage Advisor and a suite of regional coverage. 19,832 visitors generated over £15,000 in donations – three times the museum’s usual amount! The shop’s sales doubled and spend in the Coffee House was four times higher than normal – a phenomenal achievement for a regional museum.
